Seeing/Believing: Albany FilmFest, day 2

Saturday morning, I managed to get to the Cerrito to see seven short films as part of this year’s Albany FilmFest. This selection of shorts was called Seeing/Believing.

How short can a short film be? And how long can a picture be before it’s called a feature? The shortest in this selection, called 3 AM, runs under three minutes. The longest was 21 minutes.

I’m not going to write about all of the films – just the ones I really liked.

Cold Brew: In this very funny comedy, a woman with too much caffeine tries to get control of her relationship. To make things worse, a barista seems to be digging her metaphoric nails into the boyfriend.

The Eye Begins in the Hand: Song, animation, live action, and illustration tell us about working in California’s agricultural fields. The painting is beautiful, but also shows the horrors of that way of life.

Bunny is Missing: I know the problems of finding an indoor/outdoor cat. But when Celine sets out to find her missing feline, she gets a big surprise.

Believe in Wonder: This documentary brings you to the remarkable Parker family. This African American couple created and run a sci-fi publishing company. Unable to conceive, they adopt several children. The Parkers even create a community.

Tomorrow, I’ll attend the third and final section of the FilmFest, Connections.
